A 170-year-old building. Fifteen new homes. One team from the very first conversation.

Vigilant served as prime consultant, architect of record, civil engineer, cost monitor, and project manager on the conversion of a heritage building into 15 units of affordable housing under the federal Rapid Housing Initiative. We were engaged before an architect of record was in place, which meant we supported Stella's Circle from the original funding application forward. Not as a firm brought in to execute a plan, but as the team that helped shape the project from the ground up.

What the building held in character, it gave back in complexity. Successive structural, mechanical, and infrastructure discoveries tested the budget and schedule at every phase. The work of protecting the project's viability was continuous. Each new condition assessed, priced, and managed before it could become a threat to the outcome Stella's Circle needed.

The result is one of the most technically demanding renovation projects in the firm's history, and fifteen units of housing that exist because of the Owner’s vision, and the technical team’s perseverance.
